Pan Dulce
“Pan Dulce,” is a body of work that focuses on her family's yearly tradition of making Mexican sweet bread. Because Marquez was born in a Mexican Immigrant household, her appreciation for her family and their traditions led her to photograph them.
The series takes place in Tia Minerva's room in Washington Heights. The project highlights the subject(s) and their collaboration in making sweet bread in the small, condensed room.
These images are also an homage to Tia Minerva. Tia Minerva teaches her own family her method of baking through the images. Before moving with her mother into the city, Minerva ran her own Mexican bread business in New Jersey. While space and time may be limiting now that she is living in NYC, the love she has for baking inspires her to commit to baking sweet bread at least one time a year.
