Everyday Magic
It has always been about the magic. The magic around me, the world I live in and exist among. The light that shifts as plants sway in the wind and the shadows that paint the ground below. There is so much wonder in those little moments that too often go unnoticed. Whether these are secluded and painful, lonely, or joyful, terrifying and beautiful; these moments work to create the everyday existence. The series Everyday Magic is about coming home to photography and reminding myself why I enjoy capturing the world. After years of uncertainty about who I was, or what was important to me, making this series has been an integral part of my growing up. As many can attest, this process is not easy but little pieces in time like the ones in this series are fascinating and beautiful, and remind me what life is all about. They serve as a reminder to continue searching for all the magic that can be found in the everyday.

About Sam
Sam is an emerging creative whose focus is on capturing the world for what it is. They have been photographing since their elementary years but picked up a passion for 35mm in high school. During that time they were a part of CalArts Community Arts Partnership and were able to work on the CalArts campus developing their photographic skills. Sam is now a recent summa cum laude graduate from California State University, Northridge where they earned their B.A. in Communication Studies and minors in Queer Studies and Photography. During their time at CSUN they switched gears to focus on digital photography, still intrigued by the world but playing with reality using mirrors, blurs, and shadows in their images. Always fascinated by the world around them, Sam’s architectural and portrait focused imagery was published in a Forbes online article featuring hatmaker Nick Fouquet in 2022. Moving forward, Sam hopes to continue creating magical imagery and tapping into the playful process that is photography.
