The Earth Holds Me, I Hold Her Back

This project was born from a question: Do fat femmes experience a unique relationship to Mother Nature? The result is a collective love letter to our beautiful bodies, the fat liberation movement, and the elements that hold us. During long conversations with Kerrina, Naomi, and Zulema in preparation for this project, I heard a resounding sentiment in our experiences. We all feel a deep gratitude and joy in the earth’s capacity to hold us fully. They reminded me of a poem I wrote in 2021 while laying in the grass with every limb extended out. I could feel the earth hugging me. It feels beautiful to pull a line from that poem to title this ongoing series.
